BISHOP DANIEL BOSTICK, FOUNDER AND BUILDER, WAS BORN NOVEMBER 22, 1874.  HE ESTABLISHED HIS FIRST MISSION IN 1908 AT 11TH AND WASH (COLE) STREETS.  HE WAS ORDAINED IN 1910 BY THE LATE BISHOP E.R. DRIVER,  AND APPOINTED OVERSEER IN 1916, AND WAS LATER APPOINTED ON THE STAFF OF THE NATIONAL BISHOPS IN 1916.   PASTOR BOSTICK WAS APPOINTED OVERSEER OF THE CHURCHES THEN LOCATED IN THE STATES OF KENTUCKY, INDIANA, ILLINOIS, MISSOURI, AND KANSAS.

 

AFTER ESTABLISHING HIS 1ST MISSION IN 1908,  BISHOP BOSTICK MOVED TO 22ND AND ADAM, AND NEXT, TO 2804 LACLEDE. WITH EVER INCREASING MEMBERSHIP, THE CHURCH MOVED TO 23RD AND MORGAN (DELMAR)

IN DECEMBER, 1913.  HE AND HIS CONGREGATION MOVED TO THE BEAUTIFUL EDIFICE KNOWN AS BOSTICK

TEMPLE ON SEPTEMBER 9, 1962.  BOSTICK TEMPLE WILL CELEBRATE 99 YEARS IN HOLINESS IN SEPTEMBER

2007,  CERTIFYING THAT HOLINESS IS A PROVEN FOUNDATION WITH A PROMISING FUTURE.

 

BISHOP BOSTICK ALSO PASTOR'D, KENNERLY TEMPLE.  ELDER S.H. JONES SERVED AS PASTOR OF KENNERLY

TEMPLE PRIOR TO BISHOP BOSTICK.  ELDER FRANK HAYDEN SERVED AS PASTOR OF KENNERLY TEMPLE AND

HE DIED IN AUGUST 1965,  AND HE WAS FOLLOWED BY ELDER ROBERT J. WARD, NOW BISHOP OF EASTERN

MISSOURI FIRST JURISDICTION.

 

MOTHER LUCINDA BOSTICK WORKED BY THE SIDE OF HER HUSBAND, BISHOP BOSTICK, AND SHE WAS THE

FIRST STATE SUPERVISOR OF THE WOMEN’S DEPARTMENT IN MISSOURI SERVING FROM 1916 TO 1955.

 

ELDER F.C. CHRISTMAS (FATHER CHRISTMAS) BEGAN WORKING WITH THE NATIONAL CHURCH OF GOD IN

CHRIST SUNDAY SCHOOL DEPARTMENT AND BISHOP MASON APPOINTED HIM AS GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT

OF THE NATIONAL SUNDAY SCHOOL DEPARTMENT IN 1924/26.

 

MADAME MARY ALICE THOMAS ORGANIZED FIRST CHOIR IN MISSOURI AND SHE WAS THE COMPOSER OF

THE NATIONAL SUNDAY SCHOOL THEME SONG:  “WE’LL NEVER SAY FAIL.” SHE WAS APPOINTED ASSISTANT

NATIONAL DIRECTOR OF THE SUNDAY SCHOOL IN MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE.

 

MISSIONARY VERA BOYKIN WAS HIGHLY ANOINTED AND USED OF GOD.  MANY PEOPLE WERE SAVED AND

HEALED UNDER HER MINISTRY IN THE CITY OF ST. LOUIS AND ALL ACROSS THE UNITED STATES IN THE

DECADES  OF THE FORTIES AND FIFTIES.

 

MOTHER ELLA BOSTICK BRONAUGH WAS APPOINTED STATE SUPERVISOR OF WOMEN’S  DEPARTMENT IN

1956, AFTER THE DEATH OF HER MOTHER,  LUCINDA BOSTICK, IN MAY 1955. MOTHER BRONAUGH SERVED UNTIL 1981.

 

AFTER THE DEATH OF BISHOP BOSTICK IN MAY, 1963,  THE STATE WAS DIVIDED INTO TWO JURISDICTIONS: (A)   JURISDICTION #1 – PRESIDED OVER BY BISHOP M. H. NORMAN IN 1963, AND KNOWN  AS EASTERN MISSOURI

AND WESTERN ILLINOIS,  WITH MOTHER ELLA BRONAUGH SERVING AS STATE SUPERVISOR.

 

(B) JURISDICTION #2 – PRESIDED OVER BY BISHOP COLUMBUS WILLIAMS AND KNOWN AS SOUTHEAST

MISSOURI AND WESTERN ILLINOIS, 2ND JURISDICTION.  BISHOP COLUMBUS WILLIAMS WAS APPOINTED BISHOP IN MAY 1963.   MOTHER SAINT CARRIE DINWIDDIE WAS APPOINTED STATE SUPERVISOR IN NOVEMBER 1963,  OVER THE WOMEN’S DEPARTMENT.

 

UPON THE DEATH OF BISHOP COLUMBUS WILLIAMS IN APRIL 1979,  BISHOP W. WESLEY SANDERS WAS

APPOINTED BISHOP IN APRIL 1979,  OVER SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND WESTERN ILLINOIS, 2ND JURISDICTION.

 

UPON THE DEATH OF BISHOP SANDERS IN SEPTEMBER 2000,  BISHOP LAWRENCE WOOTEN WAS APPOINTED

BISHOP OVER SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND WESTERN ILLINOIS,  2ND JURISDICTION.   MOTHER SAINT CARRIE

DINWIDDIE RESIGNED AS STATE SUPERVISOR IN APRIL, 2000.   MISSIONARY ROSETTA WATTS WAS APPOINTED

AS STATE SUPERVISOR OF THE WOMEN’S DEPARTMENT IN NOVEMBER, 2000.

AFTER THE DEATH OF BISHOP M. H. NORMAN IN MARCH 1969,  BISHOP WILLIAM TURNER WAS APPOINTED

BISHOP IN MAY 1969,  OVER EASTERN MISSOURI AND WESTERN ILLINOIS.  DURING BISHOP TURNER’S

ADMINISTRATION, BISHOP LEMUEL MOORE WAS APPOINTED BISHOP IN NOVEMBER, 1983; PRESIDING OVER

SOUTHEAST ILLINOIS.  MOTHER JESSIE FORD HAD BEEN APPOINTED AS STATE SUPERVISOR IN 1957 AND SHE

DIED IN MAY 1984.   MOTHER JEAN SCOTT WAS APPOINTED AS STATE SUPERVISOR IN AUGUST, 1984,  OVER

SOUTHEAST ILLINOIS IN JUNE, 1998.  AFTER THE DEMISE OF SUPERVISOR JEAN SCOTT, MOTHER ROXALANA

MOORE WAS APPOINTED STATE SUPERVISOR IN AUGUST, 1998.

 

AFTER THE DEATH OF MOTHER ELLA BRONAUGH IN JANUARY, 1981,  MOTHER THERESA BOLDEN WAS

APPOINTED STATE SUPERVISOR IN MARCH, 1981,  OVER EASTERN MISSOURI JURISDICTION #1 AND SHE HAS

BEEN DOING AN EXCELLENT WORK.

 

BISHOP WILLIAM TURNER RESIGNED AS BISHOP IN NOVEMBER, 1984,  AND HE DIED IN SEPTEMBER, 1985.

ELDER ROBERT J. WARD WAS APPOINTED BISHOP DESIGNEE IN NOVEMBER, 1984.   ELDER ROBERT J. WARD

WAS APPOINTED BISHOP IN APRIL, 1985,  OVER EASTERN MISSOURI JURISDICTION #1. HE HAS BEEN DOING A

TREMENDOUS JOB OVER THE WORK AND ALSO IN BUILDING THE NEW BEAUTIFUL KENNERLY TEMPLE

CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST EDIFICE AND ALSO A NEW MULTIPURPOSE BUILDING ADJACENT TO IT.

 

WE SALUTE THE BISHOPS AND ALL LEADERS OF THE CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST WHO ARE SERVING NOW.

WE ALSO HONOR THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN CALLED FROM LABOR TO REWARD—ALL OF WHOM WE DO NOT

HAVE SPACE TO NAME BECAUSE WE ARE COMPASSED ABOUT WITH SO GREAT A CLOUD OF WITNESSES,

BUT THEY ARE NOT FORGOTTEN.   TO GOD BE THE GLORY TO THOSE GREAT PIONEERS WHO LABORED AND HAVE GONE ON BEFORE.

 

THE STATE OF MISSOURI  HAS A RICH HERITAGE AND LEGACY IN THE CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST!  AS WE

ENTER THE NEW MILLENNIUM AND 21ST CENTURY,  WE ENTREAT YOU AS SAINTS OF THE MOST HIGH GOD,

TO CONTINUE TO UPHOLD THE STANDARD OF HOLINESS;  A PROVEN FOUNDATION WITH A PROMISING

FUTURE TO ALL THOSE WHO ENDURE UNTO THE END!   AMEN!
